According to Autoblog, Acura is going to focus on advanced technology, by developing new hybrid power trains. At a press conference at the Detroit Auto Show, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito stated the following, “I'm pleased to say that we will be adding hybrids to the Acura brand. And based on my history in developing several Acura products, I have strong confidence in our ability to advance the Acura brand.” No word if these hybrids will be tuned for fuel economy or performance like the old Honda Accord Hybrid.
A small Acura vehicle is also being considered for the American market. In America, Acura’s smallest vehicle in their lineup is the European Honda Accord derived TSX. In Canada, the smallest Acura is the CSX, derived from the Honda Civic and built in Alliston, Ontario.
Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura America division stated that, “Acura is considering a small car below the TSX sedan. The vehicle not only would compete against the BMW 1-series, Audi A3 and Volvo C30 but also would help meet looming CAFE regulations.” No word how this will affect the Canadian CSX, but my guess is that this new Acura will replace the CSX in Canada.
These products are still a few years away, until then Acura will have to count on the recently launched ZDX and the upcoming 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon.
